Paul E. Godinez is a partner in the Austin office. He represents both institutional and startup clients with respect to the acquisition, development, protection, transfer and licensing of IP, information technology, software, data and other content.  His practice also focuses on counseling and defense of companies, partnerships, individual and non-profits in civil matters, particularly where complex government regulatory or financial matters are involved.

Paul routinely advises clients on a variety of issues and subject matters covering technology & content licensing, IP registration and enforcement, regulatory and compliance programs, and the myriad of legal issues related to social media, and marketing in the digital space.  His recent work has covered technology & development agreements, API licensing, data security and privacy implications of digital payment products, strategic promotions, and marketing arrangements, including the implications of co-mingling data, brand positioning and external communications, social media strategy, go-to-market strategy and the creation and governance of interactive law issues such as behavioral advertising, user generated content, and social media risk mitigation.

Paul is experienced in crisis management and has guided senior executives through crisis preparedness and response in the context of both internal and governmental investigations.

Paul spent the first nine years of his career as an IP and white collar litigator at White & Case, after which he was General Counsel of a NY-based digital advertising agency and Counsel in the Technology & Digital Law Group within American Express General Counsel’s Office, where he advised on and negotiated Amex's strategic alliances with digital platforms.
